THE ONGOING SELF-INFLICTED CURSE of the W.A. police force is re-badging. Basically this involves giving an officer found to be acting unlawfully or wrongly the opportunity to resign in a dignified way, taking his various benefits and entitlements such as superannuation when in fact they ought to be jailed. Or at the very least drummed out in disgrace. But no! The soft option is simply to let them free into the unsuspecting community re-badged as private detectives or security experts. Thus they make a convenient conduit between the forces of law and the forces of evil – the Fifth Estate.
There has been the continuing refusal of successive Commissioners to deal with corrupt cops in an open, proper legal fashion.
